A rare circa 1820 American Norfolk style thumb latch with early cast iron handle and wrought iron bar set. This unusual Norfolk features a decorative edge full back plate as well as a bulbous decorated handle. Back plate is 8 3/4" x 2 1/2" at widest - the handle grip is 5 1/4. Thumb press is curved and pinned to a straight lift which will accommodate a door up to 1 3/4 thick without modification.The accompanying wrought bar set features a 8" x 1" bar with a nice heart on the pivot end and an early faceted lift knob shown in close-up photo that is 3/4" x 3/4" x 7/8 extension. Drive-in staple is 2 3/4" high with 3" extensions and a drive-in jamb keeper is 2 3/4 overall. An exceptional and rare distinctive early thumb latch.
